Subject: I take it you don’t believe

Im not meaning to sound rude or anything but I take it that you don’t believe that God sent his only son to die for all of OUR sins. I understand that
this is a free country and that each and every one of us have our own
thoughts, opinions, etc., but your page “Dancing Jesus” is what us Jesus
Freaks call blasphemy and that is not to be taken lightly. Your link to this
e-mail said send an e-mail but be nice and I think I have been nice. :o)
Just kinda wondering where your coming from, that’s all.

    You were nice. 🙂

This is where I’m coming from. Keep in mind that the following has little to do with the actual reason why I did the Jesus Dance page; it just explains my mind – since you asked.

First, you hold that the Christian god exists, and to you he is just as real as gravity or ice cream or butterflies, and so it’s only natural that when someone says they don’t believe in your god, you think there’s something wrong with them, just as I would think someone who didn’t believe in gravity was a kook. I realize that this is oversimplifying and I don’t mean to put words in your mouth, but this has been my experience with devout Christians.

To me, the Christian god and messiah are mythical figures, just as Zeus or Ra are mythical to you (and to me). If you look at it from that point of view, you can see where I’m coming from. If someone came up to you and said that if you don’t believe in Ra, he’ll send you to the underworld to be judged by Anubis, you wouldn’t believe them.

Furthermore, I resent attempts to make me feel guilty for not loving Jesus because he died for my sins; I never asked him to, and if I had known him (assuming for the sake of the argument that he existed at all), I would have told him not to bother – I can live with the consequences of my own actions, and I don’t need a martyr to intercede for me.

And who knows, it may turn out that you were right all along, and I’m destined for an eternity of torment, as unlikely as that sounds. If that’s the case, I’ll be dealt with, so your outrage isn’t necessary.

I’m not trying to be facetious or make jokes (not now, anyway). Billions of people in the world are of a different faith from you, or don’t believe in any religion, and they’re all just as sincere as you. The point I’m trying to make here is that your faith doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

I hope this is what you were looking for. I’m sorry if I offended you, but no humor reaches everybody.

    Het is allemaal zóóó simpel…
