The beard-second is a unit of length created as teaching exercise inspired by the light year, but for nuclear physics instead of astronomy.[citation needed] The beard-second is defined as the length an average beard grows in a second, or about 5 nanometers[1].
The beard-second is less popular than the Ångström (10-10 m). In physics it is also common to use the SI units, usually with the nano prefix; 1 nm = 10-9 m.
