In de jaren ’70 en ’80 zag je ze wel vaker, edoch heden ten dage is het een zeldzaam beeld geworden; de AT-AT Walker.
Bovenstaand exemplaar (klik voor groot) heb ik gekiekt in juli 2010 op Rock Werchter. Enkele weken geleden was het wederom raak. Dit keer vanuit de trein toen ik ter hoogte van Meppel onze noordelijke provinciën doorkruiste. Het is altijd weer een schitterend gezicht.

”Speaking of which; maybe the Dritte-Reich-Wanderer deserves a mention. It was developed in great secrecy, but a few were operational in the final days of the war. It had a radical new propulsion and drive system, which negated the use of bridges or roads. Unfortunately because of it’s large size it was very vulnerable to Allied fighter-bombers.
It packed a formidable punch, but as most of these projects it sucked up huge amounts of Reichsmarks and other resources to develop, but in the end it was too little too late…
